NAPERVILLE, IL – Carroll sophomore Ava Butt was named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Bowling Student-Athlete of the Year on Wednesday, one of 10 student-athletes to receive All-CCIW honors leading up to this weekend’s CCIW Championship.
Aurora’s Annie Honsik was named CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year, while first-year Carroll head coach Mason Petrin was voted CCIW Coach of the Year by his peers.
Butt was an All-CCIW First Team pick after receiving Second Team accolades last season. She finished third overall during league events with an overall average of 18.62 over the full 140 frames. She was stronger in Baker frames, ranking second among league bowlers with an 18.74 average and her sum-of-fill rate of 84.3% led the CCIW. Butt is Carroll’s first CCIW Student-Athlete of the Year.
Honsik rolled 117 frames during CCIW events, averaging 16.87 per frame. She ranked 14th on the CCIW leaderboard in Baker play during league events at 17.25 per frame.
Petrin, who was named Carroll head coach on Sept. 13 of last year, led the Pios to a second-place team finish during the CCIW regular-season with a 9-3 head-to-head record. CU will have the #2 seed when it makes its second consecutive trip to the CCIW Championship this weekend in Westmont, Ill.
Four student-athletes repeated as All-CCIW First Team honorees – Aurora’s Annemarie Ruzevich, Elmhurst’s Lorrie Decker and Jocelynn Eggert and Brenna Schiekiera of Marian.
Additionally, Maddie Lathrop of Augustana was tabbed for the All-CCIW Second Team on Wednesday, joining Schiekiera and Marian’s Jenna Betts (2021-24) as the only four-time All-CCIW honorees in league history.
The All-CCIW honors also included seven recipients of the CCIW RESPECT award. At the conclusion of every sports season, each varsity program will recognize one student-athlete as their RESPECT Award honoree. RESPECT Award recipients have distinguished themselves as an integral member of the team, their institution and community by upholding the values of Responsibility, Enthusiasm, Service, Pride, Excellence, Collaboration and Trust. The RESPECT Award recognizes the intangible traits a student-athlete possesses that exemplify great character and encourages inclusiveness and a positive culture.
